Awareness of Between-ness: Street Tree like Bonsai
This art work pays homage to the resilience of street trees in hostile urban environments; strong like Bonsai. Drawing upon her perspective of ‘in-betweenness’, Japanese-Australian diaspora artist Miho Watanabe uses the transparency of her materials to evoke the invisible forces of nature and the fluidity of her identity, memorialising the beauty of the Sydney cityscape and restoring to our community those members of it who are so often invisible: the trees.
